Poems

If I Were a Bird

If I were an animal I’d be a bird.
I’d fly through the trees (although it may sound absurd)
Every day I’d fly among the flowers
And, at the least, I’d fly higher than the towers
I’d build my nest high up in a tree
If I were a bird, as if that could be
I might be a wolf and roam through the wood
A wolf that could hunt things and should
If I were a wolf, I’d be wild and free
If I were a wolf, as if that could be
I could be a fish and swim all about
Because in the ocean it is charming, without doubt
If I was a fish I’d live in the sea
If I were a fish, as if that could be
All those things around me that I could be
But rather than them, I can be me

In the Morning

When the sun arises all the creatures will come out
The deer with their fawns without a lie and not a doubt
We can’t forget the woodpeckers all knocking at the tree
The birds all stretch their little wings and start to sing to me
And then with a stretch and a yawn and a sigh,
I wake up from my cozy bed for morning is nigh

The Little Man by the Sea

I saw a little man sitting by the sea.
He was playing a fiddle that had music so pretty.
He had a little bag of seeds the birds were eating from.
And he waved his hand at me and said for me to come.
And now as I am sitting here with the little man by the sea.
I play his fiddle with him and feed the birds,
And I am happy as can be.

The Forest

When I’m alone and in the wood I play among the trees.
And when I am among the flowers I watch the honeybees.
I know every leaf and bird that there is in there.
I’ve tasted every wild strawberry, every peach and every pear.
In the winter the forest is in a blanket of snow.
In spring the woods is where the birds go.
In summer there are all the plants.
And in fall I watch the little ants.
But I always go there, I do not miss a day.
For the forest is beautiful in each and every way.

Teddy Bear

 Teddy Bear

This story all started with a boy named Dan. He doesn’t come into the story much, but anyway, this little boy wanted a teddy bear for Christmas. And that’s when Teddy came to be.

At Santa’s workshop elves were busy making toys for Christmas. There was a whole line of elves sewing teddy bears so you might not think that one of them was very special. But one of the stuffed bears named Teddy was very special. The elf that was making Teddy was sitting right by a shelf. On that shelf there was a small cup of magic that made things come alive. The elf accidentally bumped the shelf. The cup of magic fell off. The elf quickly put it back on the shelf. But not before a couple specks of magic got inside Teddy. When the elf finished sewing Teddy up the magic was trapped inside Teddy’s fluff filled inside and couldn’t get out. Because, ( as you know ) it was the magic made things come alive Teddy was officially a alive. Since the specks of magic were flying and bumping around while trying to get out they gave Teddy a heart so he could have the ability to love. They also gave him lungs so he could have the ability to breath. That is why Teddy was different. But it’s not until later until the story really starts.

It took a couple of hours for the magic to actually start working. So Teddy couldn’t feel the pain of getting sewn up. By the time the magic started working Teddy was inside of Santa’s bag. It was still a few days until the Santa would take the toys to be put under Christmas trees or stuffed inside stockings. Teddy was in a rather beautiful box ( For Dan had been extra good this year ) the box had golden wrapping on and a red ribbon tied in a tight bow. Teddy  mostly just sat there inside his box because he did not yet know very well what life was.

A few days later it was The night of Christmas Eve, Teddy felt a big jolt. That was the sled going up in the air. Teddy pushed up hard against the top of the box. The wrapping paper ripped and the bow came undone. The lid of the box came off. Teddy stretched his legs. “I can move!” He exclaimed. Then he sang a little poem off the top of his head.

I can move! I’m alive!

And I can move my joints like this!

I’m officially a creature!

Now my life is such a bliss!

In his excitement he managed to shuffle through the other packages to the top of the sack. He opened up the sack and popped his head out. Teddy was in awe. It was so beautiful up in the sky. Teddy turned the other way. He saw a fat man in a red suit with a red hat and a white ball on top. He was the kind of man with bright pink cheeks and big eyes. The red suited man was every once and a while stopping on the roof of someones house sliding down the chimney taking one or two presents with him and then coming back up with no presents in his hands. Teddy thought it might be fun to be like that red suited man so when the man in the red suit was in the house he pulled himself up out of the opened sack and hobbled on his chubby little fluff filled legs to the drivers seat of the sleigh. Then Teddy jumped down into the chimney.

Right when Teddy reached the bottom of the chimney and had just climbed out of the fireplace the red suited man walked over to the fireplace and climbed up the chimney. “Wait! Wait for me!” Shouted Teddy but the red suited man had already gone up the chimney. Now Teddy was alone.

Teddy had very many times attempted to climb up the chimney but his fluff filled body did not have the skill. But now the sun was coming up. Two children came down the stairs. Teddy knew this was not meant to be. He jumped up to the middle of the chimney just in time before the children saw him. Teddy climbed the rest of the way. Now he was on the roof he rolled over closing his eyes and planning to rest. But just when he was going to do just that smoke started coming up from the chimney. Teddy didn’t know what it was but it didn’t smell good and it made his eyes water. So he guessed he should probably get out of there “But how?” Teddy said to himself. Teddy knew he would have to take a risk. He took a deep breath and dove off the roof of the house. All Teddy saw was a white blur and then he lay unconscious.

When Teddy woke up from his little daze he sat up, stretched, and then stood. There was snow on the ground that was about knee deep for Teddy. He climbed out of the little dent he had made in the snow Then started walking. Teddy had walked all around the house twice before he noticed that The fat red suited man’s sleigh was not there anymore. Teddy sat down. Then he just realized something. “I need to find Dan!” Teddy said. Toys ( even the ones that aren’t alive ) all know who they are supposed to be with. Teddy knew that he needed to be with Dan.

While Teddy was sitting he felt a buzzing beneath him.“What is that?” Teddy said to himself. He stood up it was a little spark of magic from the reindeer that made them fly. Teddy grabbed onto it before it buzzed away. The magic flew high up into the air with Teddy hanging onto it.

Teddy flew on for a good thirty minutes but then he saw something familiar. It was Dan’s house!

Teddy closed his eyes and let go of the flying speck of magic. He fell right into Dan’s chimney.

Luckily, Dan hadn’t woken up. Teddy softly climbed up into Dan’s stocking. When Dan came and found Teddy in his stocking he cuddled with him softly. From then on Teddy was his favorite toy. And Teddy never acted real again. Except for that one day of the year on Christmas when he says hello to Santa. The one who helped Teddy get were he was.

Two Friends book three

Inspired by: Socks by Beverly Cleary

Two Friends book three

Beans was a cat. This story a story of love, friendship, and goodbye is his story. I am now going to tell it to you. “Sally! Peter” Sally and Peter’s mom called. “Time for breakfast!” “Okay!” The two children called back. They rushed down the stairs. Breakfast was toast and jelly. As usual. The Kit family was the kind of family that talked while they ate. “Can we get a cat?” Asked Sally. “Maybe” answered Mrs. Kit. That evening Mr. Kit asked Sally and Peter if they wanted to go with him on a special errand. Of course, the kids said yes so they all hopped into the car and went. Peter asked what the special errand was but Mr. Kit said it was a surprise. When the Kits got there Sally and Peter discovered that the special errand was to the pet store. They went in. There were dogs, cats, hamsters, and more!

Mr. Kit asked what pet they should get. The family settled on getting a cat. The Kits walked around the pet store. Finally the family picked out a cat that had orange, brown, white, and a bit of black. The Kits decided to name him Beans. Peter did not really care for Beans. But Sally loved him to the moon and back. Mr. And Mrs. Kit did not care much for Beans either. So Sally was basically the only one who loved him. When Beans got home he wiped his muddy paws on a towel. Then Beans and Sally went inside the house. Beans lay down. Sally showed him a bright green blanket with blue polka dots that he could sleep on.

Beans lay down and started to drift to sleep. Soon beans found himself in a deep dream. He was in a dark cage and the bars were so close together that he couldn’t squeeze out, not even in his tightest ball. Beans owner was outside the cage had black hair and an cruel scowl on her face. At dinner time she mumbled a few unrecognizable words and gave Beans two moths for his dinner. What Beans would have preferred would be a nice can of tuna. But he had to stick with the moths. For the night, instead of a warm blanket to sleep on he had a tattered old piece of carpet. Beans finally woke up from his horrible nightmare. Would this really be how his owners would treat him? Thought Beans. Well I guess I’ll try it for at least one day. But when Beans looked in front of him a nice weenie had been set out just for him.

Beans got in the rhythm of having a routine, eat, sleep, play with Sally, eat, sleep, play with Sally. That’s how it went every day. But today, instead of Beans routine Beans found himself doing something else. In the afternoon when Beans would usually be napping he found himself being shoved into a little cage with a handle. Sally carried him out to the car. Beans wondered where he would be going. When Beans and the Kit family stopped they went into a building that, printed in big letters were the words VET.

Inside of the place called VET there were other pets Beans and the Kits sat in a bench and waited. Eventually, a nurse came out of the door, she invited Sally and Beans to come in through the door. Beans came into a little white room with a little white bed and the white wallpaper was dotted with painted paw prints. The nurse got out a pointed thing. What is it going to do to me? Thought Beans. Sally lay Beans down on the little white bed. The nurse that was holding the pointy thing walked over to were Beans was lying. She put something that was in a bottle labeled medicine into the pointy thing. The nurse pricked Beans with it. Beans let out a loud screech. And his hair stood up on his back. Beans jumped a foot in the air. Beans clearly did not like that one bit. Beans scowled at the nurse. Luckily, the nurse didn’t do that anymore. And Beans was happy that it didn’t.

The lock struck 5:00 “Time to go” called Mrs. Kit. Peter thumped down the stairs in a superman outfit. Beans looked curious. Sally soon came down she had a black cat outfit on.

“I took after you” whispered Sally to Beans. Beans, who was in the corner cleaning his paws, decided if Sally was coming he should come too. So he walked over. “No Beans” Sally giggled. “You can’t come. Plus, you can’t have candy you don’t have a costume either.” Beans had no idea what candy was but he guessed a costume was what Sally and Peter were dressed in. Sally and Peter stalked out the door in their costumes. Beans stayed home with Mr. And Mrs. Kit but Mr. Kit went off to his room to read the paper and Mrs. Kit went over to the living room too watch soap operas. Clearly, they weren’t much help. Beans started playing with his yarn ball but soon got tired of that. He tried to take a nap but he couldn’t fall asleep. So he just sat on the couch and started cleaning his fur. He did this for an hour and still Sally and Peter did not come back. Beans was getting anxious.

Beans did this for yet another hour. And they finally came back. When they did come back they were crunching chocolate, chewing bubble gum, and licking lollypops. Maybe this is what candy is. Thought Beans. I guess I’ll never now for sure. But Beans was happy they had come back anyway.

One day Beans was sitting outside eating a can of tuna outside with Sally sitting next to him when a black cat came up to him. “Oh look you can play with midnight!” Sally exclaimed. “I’m not so sure about that.” Beans mumbled in cat language, looking at midnights bald patch on his side. He doesn’t look like the kind of cat that would want to play, but I’ll at least try it. Thought Beans so that midnight wouldn’t know. Beans swiped at midnight playfully. Midnight scowled and swiped back. Sally had gone inside to help her mom with the dishes. Together they swiped until they were in the middle of the driveway. Midnight growled at Beans.  Beans scratched Midnights ear. Midnight bit the orange tip of Beans tail.

Beans decided that he would be the one to stop the fight. He stalked inside the house with his  head held high. Midnight, in seeing this, retreated and went to his porch.

One day when Beans was taking a nap peacefully on the living room couch Sally woke him up by picking him up. She carried him into the bathroom were there was a tub filled with water.

I wonder what it’s for. Thought Beans. Sally put him down into the water. Beans was surprised the bath was for him! Beans yipped he jumped he splashed he howled. Sally surprisingly got Beans washed and in a few minutes he was out of the tub. Then Sally got out a thing, that she called a blow dryer. The blow drier started blowing warm air on Beans. He purred softly while his fur dried.

By about this time Sally was older and ready to go to to college. She was all ready with her bags packed. Sally and Beans said goodbye to each other. And then Sally left. Now because no one willing to take care of Beans, that evening the Kits drove Beans back to the pet store.

Years went by, Beans hadn’t gotten purchased yet. He was bored without Sally. But, by now Sally had a husband. One day Sally and her husband went to the pet store. Sally saw Beans and thought he looked familiar. Beans thought Sally looked familiar too. Sally bought him and named him Beans. Then their close friendship started over again.
